About
My name is Curtis Ailes, a photographer living in Indianapolis, Indiana. Welcome to my blog. I have a real full time job in the trucking industry that is not this blog (full disclosure). Through this page and it's posts, I hope to share my developing photographic vision as well as my growing urban advocacy. This blog has evolved from primarily a photoblog to a borderline transportation advocacy blog. What can I say, I want to see Indianapolis turn into a world class city. It has a lot of good things going for it, but a robust public transportation system will help it make the leap to the next level. Along with my other fellow Indianapolis bloggers, I hope to help promote urban concepts in and around the Indianapolis area with an acute focus on transportation issues, through this page.If it seems like I feature a lot of Portland, OR related sites that is on purpose. I like to keep up with other cities doing progressive things, and like Indianapolis, there are plenty of oft updated Portland blogs worth a look. I encourage any of my readers to check them out.
Why such a strange name for the blog? Well, my past is in auto related modifications hence the title of the page. Ive owned the name since 1998. I used to build race cars. I like to think that though I have a heavy automotive past, I have shown that I can still use the skills at my disposal to help push non-auto related issues forward.
To her credit, my wife, Casey Jo Ailes, has been the biggest influence in my photographic vision and my biggest fan when it comes to helping others. Visit her website @ www.figarosstudio.com
I am currently a Junior at IUPUI in Indianapolis studying for a BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology and pursuing a minor in Geography. My photos have made it into the Broad Ripple Gazette (Indianapolis), "The Statesman" daily newspaper of Austin, Texas, usage on Yahoo!'s website, a commercial food vendor on "Urbanspoon" and a forthcoming (I hope) appearance in Indianapolis Monthly Magazine. If you would like to use a photo that appears on this blog, please contact me.
As of August 2nd, 2010 I will also be contributing regularly to www.urbanindy.com as one of the co-founders of a new urban collaborative here in Indianapolis. Check us out for all the latest goings on in Urban Indy!
